We hope the last two chapters (Chapter 1, and Chapter 2) in our Tech Talk series provided you with the right information to feel confident about taking the next steps in your journey to becoming that Appium Desktop ninja.

In this third chapter, Wim Selles, our Senior Solutions Architect at Sauce Labs, demonstrates how you can set up Appium Desktop by connecting it to a configured iOS simulator or an Android emulator. He will walk you through each step of the process, starting with downloading Appium Desktop, and maneuvering through the three different tabs in the start window:

  • ‘Simple’ tab, which has all the default configurations to start an Appium server

  • ‘Advanced’ tab, which offers advanced controls and options required for iOS/ Android

  • ‘Preset’ tab, which helps you save inputs for future executions

As we move along this interactive live demo session, Wim will dive into how to best inspect UI elements of your apps with the ‘Appium Desktop inspector’ session.

In this chapter, you will also take away the key differences and specific pros and cons when running an Android emulator v/s an iOS simulator using the Appium Desktop.
