Sauce Labs is excited to announce our first Community Fellows, who will be focused entirely on open source.

We welcome Rajene Harris, Danielle Madry, Janackeh Blackwell, Django Skorupa, and Esther Cotton to the Sauce Labs Open Source Community Fellowship Program!

The program is designed to foster diversity and belonging in the open source community, providing fellows with paid training for six months. Our goal is to help break down the barriers in technology, enabling the fellows to work on a worthwhile open source project.

About Sauce Labs

Sauce Labs is trusted by developers worldwide to help them deliver better software, faster. The Sauce Labs Continuous Testing Cloud helps teams accelerate CI/CD without compromising quality. It delivers a 360-degree view of a customer's application experience, ensuring that applications look, function, and perform exactly as they should on every browser, OS, and device, every single time.

We have grown a lot in the last two years, expanding our products and presence around the world. We want to continue to grow responsibly and contribute to a more equitable and diverse industry. And what supports and drives the software industry? Open source.

Why Open Source?

Sauce Labs was born from an open source project called Selenium, created by one of our co-founders, Jason Huggins. Within open source we are “standing on the shoulders of giants,” which is both our legacy and our obligation to nurture and contribute to the community.

In this first version of the program, Sauce Labs looks to the community from which it was created and offers  Elemental Selenium, a collection of curated self-paced educational materials designed to help the end-user learn how to automate front-end software tests using Selenium. By providing the knowledge, time, and financial means to new contributors and maintainers of the project, Sauce Labs is contributing to the industry at its core, offering a real-world model of improving diversity in the open source governance models. The fellows will update, design, and open the project to the community, working with mentors for every step in the process. Our goal is to enable them to learn the fundamentals of code, content, design, quality, and community.

None of this would be possible without the interest and commitment of the fellows – we welcome them and look forward to working together to open a new, essential project to the open source community.
